Over 57,000 vehicles are being recalled over fears the engine may stop while driving.

An urgent recall has been issued for Subaru Impreza MY2017-2019 models and Subaru XV MY2018-2019 models. Affected vehicles were available for sale between 30 November 2016 and 2 November 2020.

Product Safety Australia have issued the recall over a potentially deadly defect:

Due to improper Engine Control Module (ECM) programming, the ignition coil may overheat, creating a short circuit which may blow the ignition coil fuse.

If the ignition coil fuse blows, hazards may include the engine stopping while driving with the inability to restart. This can increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted to arrange an inspection and potential repair, free-of-charge.
